FORT KNOX, Ky. –
Do you dream of serving among the Army’s elite, as an Army Ranger? You may think this grueling path is only for Soldiers with years of experience, but there's an option for new recruits to train directly for the 75th Ranger Regiment right from basic training.
This route is known as the Ranger Option (Option 40), this pathway allows qualified individuals to enlist with a guaranteed opportunity to attend the necessary schools and assessments to become a member of the 75th Ranger Regiment, one of the most respected and capable special operations forces in the world.
What Is Option 40?
Option 40 is a contract that ensures recruits will be given the chance to attend the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program after completing Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training. If selected at RASP, they earn the right to serve in the 75th Ranger Regiment.
This does not guarantee you will become a Ranger, but it does guarantee the opportunity to attempt.
Rangers serve in a highly disciplined, fast-paced environment that demands peak physical and mental performance. The 75th Ranger Regiment is constantly deployed in support of global combat operations and conducts direct action raids, special reconnaissance and other missions critical to national security.
Rangers train constantly and are expected to uphold the Ranger Creed in every aspect of their personal and professional lives. They also have access to some of the best training, equipment and advancement opportunities in the Army.
The Path to Becoming a Ranger:
- BCT – 10 weeks of basic soldiering training at one of the four Army BCT sites.
- AIT– the length of this training depends on your Military Occupational Specialty and is at one of the many various training locations across the country.
- RASP –eight-weeks of training that test physical endurance, mental toughness and leadership ability at Fort Benning, Georgia.
- Airborne School –candidates must complete Airborne School, a three-week course at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Requirements:
- To qualify for an Option 40 contract, applicants must:
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Have a high school diploma or GED
- Meet medical and physical standards
- Have an ASVAB placement test TECH score of 105 or above.
- Qualify for Airborne School
