Our Brigade

In October of 1964, the United States Army Recruiting Command (USAREC) was established and absorbed the six recruiting districts previously responsible to the six continental armies. The 6th Recruiting District, with a military and civilian staff of 120, was located at the Presidio of San Francisco and was responsible for recruiting in the western states. The Recruiting District consisted of 12 main stations. Of these original 12 stations, seven are represented by our current battalion headquarters.

In May of 1974, the unit’s name was changed to Western Regional Recruiting Command and was relocated to East Fort Baker at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge. In May of 1979, the unit assumed the additional mission of Army Reserve recruiting in the western states. In 1983, the command was again renamed, assuming the name 6th Recruiting Brigade (West) and consisted of nine recruiting battalions. In 1992, as part of the downsizing of the Army, the Recruiting Command closed San Francisco Battalion and realigned its boundaries to include Denver Battalion within the 6th Brigade.

1999 saw the relocation of the 6th Brigade Headquarters to our current location of North Las Vegas, NV. The brigade’s current area of responsibility covers over 2 million square miles divided up amongst seven battalions.
