IPAP Requirements & Application Information

Dear Applicant,

 

Applications will be submitted by memorandum through command channels at posts, camps, or stations (You should FEDEX the complete application yourself after the PSB signs off on the MILPO Statement – see example documents). All documentation must be current within the 12 months prior to FY JUNE Board (ie If applying for FY20 June board, all documents need to be dated after June 2019 to include physical, ALL labs, LOI, LOR’s, etc

Do not staple, bind, or place hole punches in the application documents.  Do not place in binders or cover sheets.  Place all documents in sequence and place in a 2 pocket folder.

* If you are interested in applying for a National Guard IPAP seat, please contact an AMEDD recruiter of your respective State National Guard office for more information. Other Branches of the service should apply through their own service for the IPAP Program.

* Requirement Completion Course (RCC) will not be available until further notice. See MILPER message for guidance.

Educational Requirements

1.Minimum 60 Semester Hours (SH) of college course work.

· 30 SH can be any classes or credit for military training (ex. JST transcripts)

 

· The following 30 SH must be in residence: (with an accredited institution classroom or internet (online) course with letter grade of C or better. (C- or lower will not count)

·  6 hours of English (3 SH writing/composition) CLEP is authorized.

·  6 hours of humanities (government, history, foreign language, art, social science and religion)

·  3 hours of Psychology (any type)

·  6 hours of Chemistry (general or higher) Intro to Chemistry will NOT count. Must be within 10 years of starting school, recommend within 5 years (Prior to Fall 2010 for FY20 application) and lab is not required but highly recommended. 

·  3 hours of Human Anatomy (can be a combined A&P I class) Must be within 10 years of starting school, recommend within 5 years (Prior to Fall 2010 for FY20 application) and lab is not required but highly recommended.

·  3 hours of Human Physiology (can be a combined A&P II class) Must be within 10 years of starting school, recommend within 5 years (Prior to Fall 2010 for FY20 application) and lab is not required but highly recommended.

·  3 hours of College Algebra or higher math – Statistics will NOT count

·  Medical Terminology course within 5 years (NLT Fall 2015 for FY20 application) – can take on ALMS

·  SAT with ESSAY required within 5 years of application with a minimum score of 450 in reading and math. A cumulative score of 1000 is required in the reading and math sections. (NLT March 1, 2015) Take SAT prior to 1 January to allow 8 weeks for the College Board to grade your exam. Enter code “3994” on SAT test form.

· Applicants must complete all mandatory science courses (Anatomy, Physiology, and Chemistry) within 10 years of the start of IPAP (prior to Fall 2010), recommend within 5 years.  Credit for MOS-related training are as follows: 68K (lab technicians) will receive 6 hours of Chemistry credit; 18D (Special Forces medics), 68WM6/68C (Licensed Practical Nurses), 38BW4 (Special Operations Civil Affairs Medical Sergeants), and 68W with the W1 skill identifier will receive 3 hours of Human Anatomy credit.  These applicants must have completed their training within 10 years of IPAP (prior to Fall 2010) to be accepted.

·  A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required in all sciences with and minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. The science GPA will include science courses completed within 10 years of the start of IPAP (prior to Fall 2010). Applicants must meet GPA requirements by application deadline 1 March 2020. Coursework completed after 1 March 2020 will NOT count toward GPA.

·  A minimum of 80 hours of Shadowing required with a Physician Assistant (annotated on USAREC Form 601-37.11) more is recommended.

Highly recommend applicants take labs with mandatory science courses:  Anatomy, Physiology, and Chemistry.  Highly recommend applicants take labs with any additional science courses to include but not limited to:  Biology, Microbiology, Organic Chemistry, and Biochemistry.  Also highly recommend Sociology.

· DA Photo

· DA Form 705 (PT Scorecard - last 3 scores with most recent after 1 Oct)

· DA 5500 or 5501 if body fat measurement required

· Letter of Intent (recommend memo format (AR 25-50) and no more than 1 page)

· 3 Letters of Recommendation (First line supervisor, Commander, Army PA)

o 80 shadowing hours with PA must be documented on USAREC FORM 601-37.11 in the comment/remark section

o Letter of recommendation from Commander must include their email address

o Recommend memo format (AR 25-50) and no more than 1 page

· DA 61 (application for appointment)

· DA 71 (Oath of office)

· Military Career paperwork (NCOER’s/OER’s/ORB/SRB/DA 1059/Awards/Training Certificates/DD 214/NGB/Security clearance/MILPO statement)

o If applicant does not have an NCOER, a letter from their 1SG regarding character and performance will be needed

· DD 2807-1 & DD 2808 (dated after June)

o Include ORIGINAL COPIES OF LAB PRINTOUT for the following labs: Urine drug screen (UDS), alcohol blood test (ETOH), urinalysis (UA), HIV, CBC, HCG (for Females)

o Include printout of Audiogram

o DD 2808 needs final signature from an MD or DO

o PHA WILL NOT SUFFICE!!! Everyone needs a physical completed after June 2019

· Waivers if needed (Age, Age in Grade, Time in Service, Conviction, Medical, and Profile Waivers (P2 only) – see examples below

· GT Scores – MUST be 110 or higher

· OFFICIAL Scholastic Aptitude Test results (SAT’s)

· Academic Delay memo (if needed)

· USAREC FORM 601-37.44 (Academic Worksheet)

· Curriculum Vitea (CV)

· DA 160 (desired class priority preference dates of JAN/APR/AUG)

Officer Rank Explanation Calculations

Active Duty Officers:

Commissioned officers will attend IPAP in their current officer grade held and ‘detailed’ into the SP Corps.  Upon successful completion of Phase 2 training, an eligible graduate are tendered a RA or USAR appointment as a commissioned officer in the SP Corps, with their rank determined by their individual constructive service credit calculated IAW DODI 6000.13, Enclosure 3 1.b., and policy established by the OTSG. 

Reserve and National Guard Officers:

Commissioned officers will attend IPAP as a conditionally appointed SP Corps officer (00E65), with their rank and date of date determined by their individual constructive service credit calculated IAW DODI 6000.13 and FY Phase Point memo.
