U.S. Army 3rd Recruiting Brigade

"The Marauders"

U.S. Army 3rd Recruiting Brigade was activated October 1, 1994, and is headquartered at Fort Knox, Kentucky. U.S. Army Recruiting Command and the 2d Region ROTC and Readiness Group are located at Fort Knox as well.

In July 1992, the U.S. Army 4th Recruiting Brigade, located at Fort Sheridan, Illinois, was deactivated. The closure was a result the Base Realignment and Closure decision. Recruiting territory that once belonged to 4th Recruiting Brigade was divided among 1st, 2d and 5th Brigades. Upon its activation, 3rd Recruiting Brigade assumed much of the territory that had been divided previously between 1st, 2d and 5th Recruiting Brigades. 3rd Brigade took over command and control of most of the former 4th Brigade's territory.

Increases in USAREC mission, declining propensity among young people to join the Army and a need for closer command and control, caused the U.S. Army Recruiting Command to re-open a north central brigade in Fiscal Year 1995.

In 1995, as part of the USAREC realignment, Milwaukee Recruiting Battalion was re-activated, after having been de-activated at the end of Fiscal Year 1993. Also, the Army Medical Department Officer Procurement Division and the medical specialty recruiting missions came under USAREC from the Office of the Surgeon General.

The 3rd Recruiting Brigade is the center of Army recruiting activities for an area stretching across the north central United States and tasked with the recruiting mission in all or part of eleven states, consisting of eight Battalions covering over 614,390 miles.  Those Battalions are: Chicago Battalion, Cleveland Battalion, Columbus Battalion, Indianapolis Battalion, Great Lakes Battalion, Milwaukee Battalion, Minneapolis Battalion and Nashville Battalion.
