FORT KNOX, Ky. –
Staff Sgt. Gyres Fouelefack, a native of Silver Springs, Maryland serves as a Recruiter at the San Jose East Army Recruiting Station in San Jose, California. He was recently recognized by the U.S. Army Recruiting Command leadership as one of the standout performers in the command.
In March 2020, Fouelefack began his Army journey as a Cavalry Scout at Fort Sill, before being given the opportunity to attend English language school at the Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. Fouelefack had grown up speaking primarily French and Yemba, meaning he was not necessarily proficient at English.
Fouelefack was motivated to join the Army to have the opportunity to attend English language school while getting paid, securing a full-time job, earning his citizenship, and serving his country. “I seek to challenge myself, grow personally and professionally, and contribute to something larger than myself,” Fouelefack said.
After successfully graduating English school in July 2020, Fouelefack attended One Station Unit Training and graduated in December 2020 with an Excellent in Armor distinction. Because of the skills he gained through his time as a Calvary Scout, Fouelefack also received his bachelor’s degree in finance and economics from Grand Canyon University in 2023.
“It provides unique advancement opportunities” Fouelefack said. Exactly four years later in March 2024, Fouelefack began his transition from a career as a Calvary Scout to attending Recruiting School.
“Working at USAREC offers the chance to shape the future of the Army by recruiting the next generation of Soldiers while developing key leadership and communication skills,” Fouelefack said.
As Fouelefack continues through his Army journey, he aspires to earn his Recruiting Gold Badge and receive his promotion to Sergeant First Class. According to Fouelefack, “these accomplishments will be the culmination of my dedication and hard work in the Army.”
Fouelefack attributes his success to both his family and leadership. Fouelefack acknowledges how hard it is to accept that some of the leaders he has been able to work with eventually have to PCS and move on to another command.
“I want to give a shoutout to my family, especially my wife,” Fouelefack said. “I also want to acknowledge my leadership, particularly my current station commander, Sgt. 1st Class Kingdiego Gaviola.”
When not recruiting, Fouelefack is passionate about fitness and soccer, and has a love for the financial field.
