FORT KNOX, Ky. –
Staff Sgt. Angel Zayas Gonzalez, originally from Barranquitas, Puerto Rico, serves as a Recruiter at the Caguas Station in Caguas, Puerto Rico.
In pursuit of new experiences, Zayas began his Army career as a patriot launching station operator with the intent of learning something completely new and different. He said the Army offered the types of opportunities he was seeking in life.
“I serve because of the educational benefit, the sense of adventure and the financial incentives,” Zayas said. “The Army provides financial stability for my Family.”
Following his Department of the Army selection as a Recruiter, Zayas was recognized by the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chairman for his recruiting efforts. He said he attributes his success to every senior noncommissioned officer and Soldier who has been part of his career.
Zayas said he hopes to one day become a father and retire with 20 years of service. Beyond recruiting, he engages in volunteering, vehicle reconstruction, off-roading, video games and hiking.
For Zayas, being a Recruiter provides even more opportunities than he initially expected when joining the Army.
“U.S. Army Recruiting Command allows me to represent the Army in local community events, thus strengthening the Army presence and recruiting efforts,” Zayas said. “USAREC also provides me with the ability to mentor and train new recruits who want to serve.”
