Get to Know: USAREC Annual Award Winner - Anne-Marie O’Sullivan

By Keri Anne Smialek Chicago Recruiting Battalion

The United States Army Recruiting Command recognized annual award winners for fiscal year 2022 in a ceremony held at Fort Knox, Kentucky on Nov. 17. The 3rd Recruiting Brigade is proud to announce Anne-Marie O’Sullivan, Soldier and Family Assistant Program Manager for the Chicago Recruiting Battalion, was named USAREC’s “Outstanding Professional Employee of the Year”.

O’Sullivan has been in her position for nearly two decades (her 20-year anniversary will be in May 2023), but time has only increased her dedication to serving Soldiers and Families of the Chicago area. O’Sullivan's warm and inviting personality can be seen in some of the answers to the “Get to Know” questions posed to her:

Q: What is something you find rewarding in your duties?

A: When I can secure medical care for a Soldier or family at a critical time in their lives allowing them to just focus on their recovery, not how the medical bills will be paid, or even where to go for care. It’s very different from being on an Army post. Also, I really enjoy the interaction with the Soldiers, being part of their transition into USAREC, and assisting them with their PCS to new and exciting locations.

Q: Do you have any personal Military affiliation outside of your duties?

A: I am retired Navy, and my husband is retired Marine Corps. My father served in the Army Air Corps throughout World War II. I am the AMVETS Post 35 Commander serving veterans and working veteran’s issues throughout the state of Illinois.

Q: What outside of work hobbies keep you grounded or reduce stress?

A: Reinforcing training for my service dog, Sirius Black, and gardening with my family.

Q: What is something completely random about you?

A: Our family has its own motorcycle club (the “OSOCREW”), and we ride together in charity rides. My husband and I dress as Santa and Mrs. Claus for the veterans and charity events during the holidays.

Q: Any future plans you would like to share?

A: I hope to remain at the Chicago Recruiting Battalion until I retire (not any time soon). I find the fast-paced environment and working with the Soldiers and their families very rewarding.
