Fort Knox, Ky. –
U.S. Army Recruiting Command leaders have selected the four 2020 noncommissioned officers of the year.
These NCOs won at the brigade level before moving the USAREC-level. The 2020 USAREC NCOs of the year are as follows:
- First Sergeant of the Year: 1st Sgt. Brian Filipowski, Medical Recruiting Brigade
- Station Commander of the Year: Sgt. 1st Class Jose Rojas-Cotto, 2nd Recruiting Brigade
- Regular Army Noncommissioned Officer of the Year: Staff Sgt. Hunter Kiser, 1st Recruiting Brigade
- Army Reserve Noncommissioned Officer of the Year: Staff Sgt. Garrett Ehrmann, 5th Recruiting Brigade
As part of the Annual Awards Board, which was virtual this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, 23 Soldiers, representing USAREC’s six recruiting brigades, competed to demonstrate their knowledge and professionalism, in hopes of being named the top in their respective categories. Competitors completed an Army physical fitness test and made a virtual appearance before the USAREC command sergeant major and all brigade command sergeants major.
The board selection was based on the whole-Soldier concept, including personal appearance, height, weight, physical fitness, and communication skills. The winners will be recognized during the Annual Leaders Training Conference in January.
