FORT KNOX, Ky. –
Staff Sgt. Gage Smith, a native of Wilmington, Ohio, serves as a Recruiter at the Mililani Recruiting Station in Wahiawa, Hawaii. He was recently recognized by the leadership of U.S. Army Recruiting Command as one of the standout performers in the command.
Smith joined the U.S. Army as a Signal Support Specialist. He joined to be a part of a team environment similar to the one he grew up in with sports. “USAREC allows me to work more closely with the local communities, and high schools. I enjoy coaching and mentoring the younger generation, so USAREC has allowed me to directly impact and change lives for the better” Smith said.
Prior to becoming a recruiter, he earned the Distinguished Honor Grad and Iron Soldier award while attending Advanced Leader Course.
“I continue to serve in the Army because of the opportunities I have to help and support the local communities, as well as the country as a whole. Serving also allows me to see more of the world, while meeting amazing people and new mentors to help make me a better leader and person.” Smith said.
Within the next year, Smith hopes to be accepted into the Warrant Officer program as a 420T while finishing up his bachelor’s degree and beginning his master’s program.
Smith is very focused on his future, “Once those few goals are accomplished, I can focus on my main goal of building a family for myself and continuing my career.”
For Smith, his family is his main motivator. Growing up, he heard stories from his uncles and grandparents who served in the Army, although Smith recognizes that his dad has given him personal strength. “I attribute most of my success to my father, Shane Smith. His determination and work ethic has always inspired me to give 100% effort in everything I do. He is my personal hero.”
When not recruiting, Smith enjoys bodybuilding competitions, video games, sports, singing, and volunteering.
