FORT KNOX, Ken. –
FORT KNOX, Ken. – The 3rd Recruiting Brigade Religious Support Team recognized Suicide Prevention Month with a Prayer Breakfast at the Main Post Chapel Annex on September 26, 2024.
Command Sgt. Maj. Hilda Garcia delivered the moving and intimate keynote address, and emphasized the theme of the breakfast, “We are stronger together”.
In keeping with the tone of a religious prayer breakfast, Command Sgt. Maj. Garcia stated, “Sometimes, God slows you down so that the evil on the path ahead of you can leave before you arrive. Sometimes, the things you think you want are not what they seem to be, and a delay or refusal just might be God’s way of protecting you.”
In her speech, she noted that service members and veterans dedicate their lives to protecting the nation, but stressed the importance of military members protecting each other as well.
According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, an average of 20 veterans die by suicide each and every day. The Prayer Breakfast served to remind everyone of the power of a positive message, and hoped to reduce that number by sharing information concerning available resources.
As 3rd Brigade Deputy Chaplain Claude Kisuka said, “It’s not about getting the message to many people – it’s about getting it to the right people.”
