Command Sgt. Maj. Yvette M. Kennedy is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. She enlisted in the United States Army in October 1990 and completed Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina. She went directly from there to Saudia Arabia where she was attached to Coscom 507th Group Ft. Bragg, North Carolina.
Kennedy’s assignments include the 73rd, 558th, and 97th Transportation Companies Fort Eustis, Virginia where she served as a Food Service Specialist; 125th Signal Battalion, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii where she served as a food service supervisor. CSM Kennedy was selected for Recruiting duty in 1997 after she completed the Army Recruiting School she was assigned to the Baltimore Recruiting Battalion Fort Meade, Maryland where she served as a Recruiter, On Production Station Commander and Limited Production Station Commander; Training Support Battalion at Fort Jackson, South Carolina where she served as an Instructor/Writer and Operations NCOIC; Columbia Recruiting Battalion in Columbia, South Carolina where she served as Master Trainer, Operations NCOIC, Senior Guidance Counselor, and Company First Sergeant for the Florence Recruiting Company and Columbia Recruiting Company and was selected to attend the resident course United States Army Sergeant Majors Academy at Fort Bliss, Texas. After graduation, she was assigned as the Command Sergeant Major for the 2nd Medical Recruiting Battalion and the Operations Sergeant Major for Raleigh Recruiting Battalion.
Kennedy is a graduate of various Military Courses to include: Warrior Leader Course, Advance Leader Course, Senior Leader Course, Department of the Army First Sergeant Course, USAREC First Sergeant Course, Army Recruiter Course, Station Commander Course, Basic Instructor Course, Guidance Operations Counselor Course, Master Resilience Training Course, United States Army Sergeants Major Academy Class 65, Command Sergeant Major Development Program, and the United States Army Battalion Pre-Command Course. CSM Kennedy holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, a Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling and currently pursuing her Doctorate of Education Degree in Community Care and Counseling.
Kennedy’s military awards and decorations include the Army Meritorious Service Medal(5rd award), Army Commendation Medal (3rd Award), Army Achievement Medal (9th Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (9th Award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), Southwest Asia Service Medal (1 Bronze Service Star), Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, Army NCO Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 4), Army Service Ribbon, Army Overseas Ribbon (Numeral 4), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia), Gold Recruiter Badge, and the Drivers/Mechanics Badge.
She is married to her husband of 29 years, Nathaniel and they have four children Brandon, Courtney, Devin and Aarin. She has four grandchildren Mathias, Brycen, Brandon Jr. and Aubree.
