Col. Jason E. Kerr is a native of West Virginia. In 1996, he commissioned as a second lieutenant into the Chemical Corps from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York.
Kerr has served in a variety of positions throughout his 23-year career. His assignments include: Battalion Chemical Officer, 1-77 Armor Battalion and Platoon Leader, 12th Chemical Company in the 1st Infantry Division; Regimental Chemical Officer, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division; Company Commander, 101st Chemical Company, XVIII Airborne Corps; Observer Controller and Operations Officer, 2-361st Training Support Battalion, 91st Infantry Division; CBRN Officer and Concept Developer, U.S. Army Combined Arms Center; Operations Officer and Executive Officer, 23rd Chemical Battalion, 48th Chemical Brigade; CBRN Branch Chief, U.S. Central Command; Aide-de-Camp to the Commander International Security Assistance Force and United States Forces-Afghanistan; Headquarters Commandant, U.S. Central Command, Battalion Commander, U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion - Cleveland, and Military Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Manpower and Reserve Affairs).
Kerr’s deployments include multinational peacekeeping operations in the Balkans in 1997, commanding a company in ground combat with the 1st Marine Division in Iraq in 2003, and serving as a wartime aide-de-camp for the commander in Afghanistan in 2012.
Kerr is a graduate of the Chemical Officer’s Basic Course, Chemical Captain’s Career Course, the Italian Command and General Staff College, the Joint Forces Staff College, and the Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the United States Military Academy, a Master’s Degree in International Strategic-Military Studies from the University of Milan and LUISS “Guido Carli” University of Rome, a Master’s Degree in Procurement and Acquisitions Management from Webster University, and a Master’s Degree in National Resource Strategy from National Defense University.
