Johnston has served in numerous leadership positions as a SEN Team Chief, Senior Transmission Team Chief, two tours as a Station Commander, three Recruiting First Sergeant positions, BN Operations SGM, and lastly as the CSM for the Minneapolis Recruiting BN.
His stateside assignments include Fort Gordon, Georgia; Fort Lewis, Washington; Bend, Oregon; Eugene, Oregon; Ft Bliss, Texas; Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and Minneapolis, MN. His overseas assignments include Korea, Hawaii, and Germany. He has also deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Johnston’s military education includes the Warrior Leader Course, Basic NCO Course, Senior Leader Course, the Army Recruiter Course, Station Commander Course, 1SG course, and is a graduate of the U.S. Army Sergeant’s Major Academy. His civilian education includes a high school diploma from Sterling City High School, a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Post University, and he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Master of Public Administration degree from Post University.
Johnston’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (5th award) the Army Commendation medal (5th award) the Army Achievement Medal (4th award), Meritorious Unit Citation, Army Superior Unit Award, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, and the Overseas Service Ribbon (4th award). CSM Johnston has also earned the 63rd Signal Brigade Combat Badge, Gold Recruiter’s Badge as well as the Glenn E. Morell Medallion for recruiting excellence.
