Command Sergeant Major Robert Eugene Burkhammer was raised in the Detroit, Michigan area and joined the Army in October, 2001 as a 19D Cavalry Scout. After completion of One Station Unit training at Ft. Knox, KY, he was stationed in Germany and participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003.
Burkhammer was stationed at Ft. Bliss, TX when he deployed for a second time to Iraq, and was at Fort Lewis, WA for his third Iraqi deployment in 2008-2009.
He began his recruiting experience in 2011 while stationed in El Paso, TX. In 2012, he reclassed to Military Occupation Specialty (MOS) 79R and while there,earned a subsequent assignment as an Assistant Station Commander.
Burkhammer was appointed as a Station Commander in the Chicago Recruiting Battalion and later earned a position as a Brigade Master Trainer in 3rd Recruiting Brigade before being promoted to First Sergeant and assigned to Iron Mountain Company, Milwaukee BN in 2018.
Spending the next two years in the bold north, Burkhammer built a team that resulted in Iron Mountain accomplishing both its Regular Army and Army Reserve mission for the first time in 12 years. While also accomplishing precision mission accomplishment in FY20 prior to the Covid pandemic. Shortly into the pandemic he was reassigned to the Iowa City Recruiting Company in Minneapolis BN. He served the next two years there leading that company through a natural disaster and pandemic prior to attending the Sergeants Major Course (SMC) class 73. Upon completion of the SMC, Burkhammer was assigned as the Tampa Recruiting BN Operations Sergeant Major. While there he was selected to be the next Cleveland Recruiting BN Command Sergeant Major.
Burkhammer has graduated the following military schools: Warrior Leader Course, Basic Non-Commissioned Officer course (19D), Senior Leaders Course (79R), Master Leaders Course, Sergeants Major Course, Station Commanders Course, Recruiting First Sergeant Command Course, Guidance Counselor Operations Course, and many others. His civilian education includes graduating from Post University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and, graduating with a Master’s Degree from Excelsior University in 2022.
Burkhammer’s awards include the Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal (3rd award), Army Accommodation Medal (8th award), Army Achievement Medal (12th award), National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (numeral 5), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon (numeral 4), Gold Recruiting Badge, Expert Drivers Badge, Expert Marksmanship Badge.
