Deputy Commanding General Support

Brig. Gen. Fred Hockett Jr

Brig. Gen. Fred Hockett’s military career started in 1987 as an Army Reserve infantryman with the 70th Training Division. He later transitioned to active duty with the 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Colorado. After attending the United States Military Academy Prep School and the United States Military Academy, he commissioned as an infantry second lieutenant. Hockett holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the U.S. Military Academy and master’s degrees from Central Michigan University and the U.S. Army War College.

He commanded a mechanized infantry company and battalion headquarters company in the Republic of Korea with 9th Infantry Division. He also served as a company commander in USAREC with Pontiac Company in the Great Lakes Recruiting Battalion. Following his tenure as company commander, he served as the Recruiting Operations officer at the University of Illinois – Chicago ROTC, the Readiness Operations Branch chief and Readiness Division chief at U.S. Army Reserve Command, executive officer for the USARC G-3/5/7, and battalion commander of the 13th Battalion, Army Reserve Careers Division.

Hockett’s other assignments include serving as the director of the Chief of Army Reserve’s Action Group and director of the G-33 (Operation, Readiness and Mobilization) at USARC headquarters. He served as the group commander for Army Reserve Careers Group at Fort Knox, Kentucky, prior to his current assignment as the Deputy Commanding General – Support, DCG to the Commanding General, USAREC.

His military awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal (oak leaf cluster), Meritorious Service Medal (three oak leaf clusters), and Army Commendation Medal (oak leaf cluster). He has earned the Basic Parachutist Badge, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, and Basic Recruiting Badge.
