Staff Sgt. Carl Clegg was born October 20,1985, in Newberry, SC. After graduating from Whitmire High School he attended Piedmont Technical College and earned his Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. In 2007, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served 11 years 7 months as an Infantryman. He joined the U.S. Army in November of 2018 and was assigned to the Service Pistol Team in the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit.
Clegg started his shooting career in 2012 as a member of the Parris Island Shooting Team and was soon picked up by the USMC Shooting Team as a summer augment shooter. By the end of the 2012 season, he became Pistol Distinguished. Clegg has had many accomplishments that include: Interservice Pistol Champion (2), NRA National Champion, CMP National Champion, National Trophy Individual (NTI), Elliott Trophy Rifle Team Match, Edson Trophy Pistol Team Match, Distinguished Pistol Badge, President’s Hundred (5), Canton McKinley Regional Winner, Butch Powell Memorial Regional Bullseye Pistol Match Winner, Tennessee State Pistol Championship Winner and the NRA South Carolina Regional Pistol Winner just to name a few. Clegg is currently one of the top bullseye pistol shooters on the AMU Service Pistol Team.
Clegg's service awards include: Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2), Combat Action Ribbon (Afghanistan), Navy Unit Commendation, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal (3), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (W/1 Star), Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal (Spain), Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal (2), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (4), NATO Medal-ISAF Afghanistan.
