Sgt. Dan Byrd is a native of Longview, TX. He attended the University of North Texas and received a bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management in 2011. Byrd returned to school in 2013 at Murray State College School of Gunsmithing Tishomingo, OK in 2013. After graduating in 2016 he worked as a gunsmith for Shumaker Gunworks of Stephenville TX. He joined the Army in 2019 and completed OSUT at Ft. Benning, Georgia. He was assigned to the USAMU Custom Firearms shop in November 2019 as a gunsmith. After the 2022 All Army competition Byrd was offered a position as a summer shooter with the service pistol team. In July of 2022 he was offered a full time position as a service pistol shooter.
His military awards include; National Defense Service Medal and an Army Service Ribbon; Army Good Conduct Medal.
