Staff Sgt. Derek Haldeman

Staff Sgt. Derek Haldeman was born in Sunbury, Ohio. He joined the Army after graduating from the Delaware Area Career Center. Haldeman first started shooting at the age of 11 and competed in his first American Trap match at the age of 13 at the Ohio State Shoot. Later, Haldeman made the 2007 Junior All American Team in American Trap. Soon after making the All American Team, he made the change over to International Double Trap. In 2010 he started making a name for himself after finishing third place at the National Championships and was a member of the second place junior team at the World Championships in Munich.
He shipped to OSUT at Fort Benning in February 16, 2011. Upon graduation from Basic Training in June of 2011, Haldeman was assigned to the United States Army
Marksmanship Unit at Fort Moore and went to the Shotgun Section.

In 2013 Haldeman made his first open World Championship Team in Lima, Peru and made his first open final. Two years later SSG Haldeman won his first international medal at the Acapulco, Mexico World Cup 2015. Since then, he has become a fighting force in International Trap by making the World Championship Team and making the final in World Championships in Moscow, Russia in 2017 as well as earning a bronze medal in Mixed Team. Later that year he earned a bronze medal in Mixed Team at World Cup Final in New Delhi, India. In 2019 Haldeman earned a silver medal at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru which secured the first Olympic Quota in Men’s Trap since 2008.
Haldeman has graduated from Warrior Leader Course, Advanced Leadership Course and Airborne School.
