Chicago Recruiting Battalion Command Sergeant Major

Command Sgt. Maj. Jason Peterson

Command Sgt. Maj. Jason Peterson is a native of Dunedin Florida. He joined the Army in March of 2000, attended basic training at Fort Sill, OK and his Advanced Individual Training at Fort Eustis, VA where he earned the military occupation specialty, watercraft engineer.

Peterson has performed duties as a Marine Engineer, Platoon Sergeant, Assistant Chief Engineer, Recruiter, Station Commander, Senior Guidance Counselor, two-time Company First Sergeant, and Operations Sergeant Major. His background includes a myriad of leadership roles at Company, Battalion, and Major Command Levels. Some of those duty assignments have included: USA Garrison, 163rd Logistics Support Vessel, 544th Logistics Support Vessel, Special Operations Command, 73rd Transportation Company, Dallas Recruiting BN, New England Recruiting BN, Baton Rouge Recruiting BN, and Tampa Recruiting BN. Currently he is assigned to USAREC as a Command Sergeant Major in Chicago Illinois, Chicago Recruiting BN.

Peterson has completed Warrior Leaders Course, Advance Leaders Course, Senior Leaders Course, Recruiting Company Commander/First Sergeants Course, Airborne School, Army Recruiter Course, Station Commander Course, Guidance/ Operations Course, Pre-Command Course, Force XXI Battle Command, Mobile Retention, Unit Armorer course, Battle Staff, and is a graduate of The U.S. Army Sergeants Major Course, Class #69. Peterson holds an associate degree from American Military University, a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from Excelsior College, and a master’s degree in management from Excelsior College.

Peterson’s awards and decorations includes the Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC) Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (5 OLC), Good Conduct Medal (6 Award), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCOES Ribbon with “5” device, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Sea Duty Ribbon and Certificate of Achievement (11). He has also been awarded the Parachute Badge, Driver Badge Wheeled Operator, Driver Badge Special Operator, Mechanics Badge, Recruiter Badge with 3 Gold stars, Recruiting Badge Gold with 3 Sapphires, and a Recruiter Ring.
