Capt. Deanna Clegg was born in Northridge, California. She graduated from Canyon High School in 2008 and was named Athlete of the Year in addition to graduating with honors. Clegg was on a premier level club soccer team, winning the California State Championships in 2008, and placed third in regionals. She also ran high school track, advancing to the CIF Championships multiple times throughout her tenure. Clegg attended the United States Military Academy at West Point from 2008 until 2012. She was a four year varsity soccer athlete, taking two Patriot League Titles in 2008 and 2011, and advanced to the NCAA tournament. Additionally, Clegg ran on the West Point Track and Field team for one season.
Clegg commissioned in 2012 as a quartermaster officer. She was awarded the Iron Woman award during her Basic Officer Course for having the highest Army Physical Fitness Test average.
Her military awards include three Army Achievement Awards, two Army Commendation Medals, a Korean Defense Service Ribbon, and an Overseas Service Ribbon.
