Lt. Col. Lawrence L. Grant

Lt. Col. Lawrence L. Grant entered service as a split option military police trainee April 1996.  He later joined the Jackson State University ROTC program and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Military Police Corps in December 1999.  His initial assignment was in 716th Military Police Battalion, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, which included service support the 3rd BDE, Rakkasans in Kandahar Afghanistan in 2002.  He also served in the 728th Military Police Battalion, 8th United States Army, Daegu, and Republic of Korea.

As a captain, he commanded the 17th Military Police Detachment (Law Enforcement) Fort Jackson, South Carolina.  Upon completion of company command, he volunteered to deploy as a member of an Iraqi National Police Training Team and spent 13 months as that S3, Police and Maneuver Trainer in the Fadl and Rusafa districts of Baghdad, Iraq.

While a major, he served as the Chief of Law Enforcement/Police Operations at Joint Base Lewis McChord, Washington.  He was later assigned as the 42nd Military Police Brigade Chief of Operations and subsequently as Battalion S3 and Executive Officer with 508th Military Police Battalion at JBLM.  Following these assignments, he attended the Command and General Staff College and went on to serve as the Course Chief of the Military Police Basic Officer Leadership Course managing the training of 300 newly commissioned officers over a two year period.  Upon completion of this assignment, he was deployed to Afghanistan serving as the lead detainee operations planner for U.S. Forces Afghanistan.

Preceding this assignment, Grant served as the Provost Marshal and G3 Protection Chief in the 7th Infantry Division at JBLM. Grant holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Jackson State University, a Master of Arts in Business Management from Webster University, and PhD in Business Management from Northcentral University.

Grant is married to the former Melissa Woods, who is serving as a Soldier at JBLM, and they have a daughter, Zoie (8).
