Lt. Col. Jimmy C. Salazar graduated from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, TX with a major in Political Science and was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps as a 2nd Lieutenant of the Infantry in May 1999.
Initially he was assigned as a Platoon Leader with 2nd Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment (Manchu) at Camp Casey, Korea and then as a Company Executive Officer with 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment (Gimlets) at Ft. Lewis Washington.
Salazar then transitioned to the Military Intelligence Corps and was assigned to the 504th Military Intelligence Brigade at Ft. Hood, Texas where he served in several Battalion Staff positions before taking command of Bravo Company, 303rd MI Battalion where he deployed to Baghdad, Iraq. LTC Salazar was then assigned to 3rd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division where he deployed to Mosul, Iraq serving as a Squadron and Brigade Intelligence Officer.
Salazar was then assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division where he served as the G5 Intelligence Planner in Kandahar, Afghanistan, the Brigade Intelligence Officer for 2nd Brigade (325 Airborne Infantry Regiment “Falcons”) and finally the Division G2 Analysis and Control Element Chief.
Most recently LTC Salazar was assigned to the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps in the UK as the Corps Deputy G2.
Salazar is a graduate of the Infantry Officer Basic Course, the Military Intelligence Advanced Course, the Combined Arms and Services Staff School, the Command and General Staff School, and the School of Advanced Military Studies and the Kansas State University Graduate School of Education.
Salazar has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Joint Service Achievement Medal and the Army Achievement Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters. Salazar also earned the Expert Infantryman Badge, the Parachutist Badge and the Army Recruiter Badge.
