Welcome

Dear Soldiers, Civilians and Family Members,
Welcome to the U.S. Army 5th Medical Recruiting Battalion (MRB) also known as the Titans.  The battalion’s mission is to recruit high quality health care professionals to maintain the future of military medicine for our Soldiers, Family Members, and Retirees.  Your assignment to this battalion marks a pivotal point in your military career.  While challenging at times, it is our hope that this experiences will be a rewarding one for you.

The 5th MRB has a long and successful history.  The unit was activated on October 1, 1995 as the 5th Army Medical Department (AMEDD) Recruiting Detachment after a merger between the Officer Procurement assets of the Office of The Surgeon General, U.S. Army, and assets from U.S. Army Recruiting Command’s (USAREC) nurse recruiting teams.  On January 7, 2005, the AMEDD detachments were re-designated as battalions by direction of the USAREC Commanding General. The battalion's area of operation spans more than 720,000 square miles, stretching through the Central Plains Region of the United States. The 5th MRB has three medical recruiting companies with headquarters in San Antonio, Houston and Kansas City, Kansas.  Each company is responsible for at least four medical recruiting stations.  Our battalion routinely performs in the top tier of all recruiting battalions, and that winning attitude is reflected in our team – your team.

The 5th MRB, headquartered at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, has Medical Recruiting Stations located in Texas: Dallas, Houston, Lubbock and San Antonio; Oklahoma: Oklahoma City; Kansas: Kansas City and Wichita; Missouri: St. Louis; Iowa: Des Moines; Illinois: Peoria; Nebraska: Omaha; Arkansas: Little Rock; and Louisianna: New Orleans and Shreveport.  The 5th MRB team is comprised of a dedicated group of AMEDD officers, noncommissioned officers, Department of the Army civilians, and contractors who perform a variety of critical duties in support of the health care professional recruiting mission.

You are not only joining a team that has a history of winning, but also a family that looks out for its members.  Hall of Fame professional basketball coach Phil Jackson once said, “The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team.”  We know you will do your part to uphold the history of our team.  We look forward to meeting you, recruiting with you, and having you as a member of this winning team.  Again, welcome to the 5th MRB,

“Raise Up…Hammer Down – Seize the Objective!”

Lt. Col. Victoria Somnuk, Commander & Command Sgt. Major. Everett Guerra
