KANSAS CITY RECRUITING BATTALION WELCOME PACKET

On behalf of the Noncommissioned Officers of the Kansas City Recruiting Battalion, I would like to congratulate you on your selection to recruiting duty and, more importantly, welcome you and your family to this battalion.

The Kansas City Battalion, also known as the “Heartland Battalion”, is located approximately 26 miles from Fort Leavenworth and approximately 3 miles from the Kansas City International Airport. We are comprised of approximately 274 NCO’s, 12 officers and 29 civilians who are charged with the mission of recruiting top-notch Soldiers much like yourself. We cover the eastern half of Kansas and most of the state of Missouri, totaling over 151,540 square miles, with 20 recruiting stations and 8 company headquarters. We are a large unit with a tough mission, but one we can easily accomplish.

To assist you and your family in settling into your new assignment as a Recruiter, a sponsor from your soon to be assigned Recruiting Station will contact you. You will then be provided more specific information about your proposed assignment and area as well as general information about the battalion area. Any questions or concerns you have regarding this assignment, please contact myself, or the Battalion S1, at (816-891-8037).

For you and your family, we have an active Family Readiness Group with volunteers at the battalion, company and station levels ready to give their time and energy in support of our recruiting families. Also, pending the arrival of your household goods, each Company has a loaner kit that includes pots, pans and dishes and each nearby military installation has an extensive supply of loaner equipment for your needs.

We recommend that you arrive with sufficient funds to defray living expenses for at least two months. Our finance office is located in San Antonio, Texas, and pay delays are common. If you now have your pay going to a local bank, we strongly suggest that you do not close that account until you have an account here and have verified that your pay is being deposited. In addition, do not sign any leasing agreements or purchase any property until you have been assigned a recruiting station.

We look forward to your assignment to the best battalion in the 5th Brigade.

CSM Shane E. Nunes
Battalion Command Sergeant Major
