USAREC recognizes top station commanders

U.S. Army Recruiting Command leaders recognized the top 13 station commanders for the second quarter of fiscal 2022 in a ceremony at Fort Knox April 11.

Maj. Gen. Kevin Vereen and Command Sgt. Maj. John Foley presented the top two station commanders from each recruiting brigade and the top station commander from the Special Operations Recruiting Battalion with a Meritorious Service Medal, a coin and an Uncle Sam watch for their achievements.

“By being recognized today as top station commanders in USAREC, that says something about you,” Vereen said. “Good noncommissioned officers, don’t keep it to yourselves. Share your experiences, share your successes, and share your failures with others, so, one, they don’t repeat history, and, two, so they at some point in time can potentially be sitting where you are today.”

Both Vereen and Foley took time at the beginning of the ceremony to speak directly to the station commanders in the room at the headquarters building and to everyone watching the ceremony live on Facebook.

“Think about this: there are 13 of you out of 1,510, and you are the 13 highest performing noncommissioned officers for your stations, in a very complex and challenging environment with everything that is going on in our country and across the globe,” Foley said. “It is not luck that you sit here today. It’s not luck when you achieve excellence over a certain sustained amount of time. It takes great leadership. It takes a great command climate. It takes great culture. And it takes leading by example.”
