Language skills help soldiers serve

Multilingual Soldiers are finding themselves in high demand as volunteer workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Eight Soldiers from the Southern California Recruiting Battalion volunteer at the Saddleback Church food pantry each Wednesday and Saturday. Their ability to translate information to Spanish is helping families navigate the current crisis.

For the second year in a row, an instructor from the U.S. Army Recruiting and Retention College has been named the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Noncommissioned Officer Instructor of the Year. Sgt. 1st Class Heather Rankin was announced among the 2020 winners in a TRADOC memorandum May 8.

Recruiter by day, a battle buddy for life

During the day Sgt. Jamye Mort works hard to find candidates to join the U.S. Army, but in her off time, she volunteers to help her fellow Soldiers. Mort, a recruiter with the Frederick Company, Baltimore Recruiting Battalion, spends her off-duty hours volunteering with a local non-profit organization that helps veterans and their families cope with mental health and physical issues.

On any normal day, Master Sgt. Jennifer Davidson can be found jumping out of airplanes, training with her teammates in competitive skydiving. Davidson, a two-time World Parachuting Champion and Military World Games Champion, puts her skills to the test competing around the globe, showcasing the skill and determination of the American Soldier to the world as a member of the U.S. Army Parachute Team, the “Golden Knights.”
