Columbus, Ohio, Nov. 19, 2018 —
Under Secretary of The Army Ryan G. McCarthy visited the U.S. Army Columbus Recruiting Battalion on Oct. 18 for a briefing on the battalion’s ongoing recruiting efforts and future operations plans within the unit.
The discussion was led by the Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Che Arosemena who spoke about what was working well for recruitment in the local environments and schools. He emphasized the importance of building the Army brand on social media to continue to engage the younger generation and make more assets available to the recruiters to assist in their recruiting efforts.
The Under Secretary spoke to recruiters about improving relationships within the local communities by keeping their local high schools engaged. He also mentioned how new recruiting strategies are being designed to energize the “boots on the ground recruiter” and make them more successful. He referenced how Wal-Mart allows its local managers to design the layout of their stores to reflect their community, and how recruiting stations should be doing the same to make them more relatable within their communities, area high schools and colleges.
During his visit The Under Secretary also met with the battalion staff, recruiters, and their family members and stayed for the promotion ceremony of two senior noncommissioned officers. LTC Arosemena awarded McCarthy the Columbus Recruiting Battalion Order of the Pioneers certificate, making him an honorary member of the Pioneer Nation!
