Sgt. 1st Class Michael D. McPhail, an international rifle shooter with the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, Fort Benning, Georgia, has distinguished himself through his many accomplishments. McPhail is currently a two-time Olympian.
A native of Darlington, Wisconsin, McPhail graduated from Darlington High School in 2000 and furthered his education at the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh. He enlisted in the Army Aug. 16, 2004. After he completed Basic and Infantry Training at Fort Benning, Georgia he was assigned to the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit Jan. 3, 2005.

His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, International Distinguished Badge, Sharpshooter Rifle Badge, Sharpshooter Grenade Badge and Accessions Support Brigade Soldier of the Quarter for the fourth quarter of FY 2006 and third quarter FY 2008 and second quarter FY 2014.
