Command Sgt. Maj. Calvin C. Hamby

Command Sgt. Maj. Calvin C. Hamby entered the Army on Aug. 28, 1990. He completed Basic Training and advanced training at Ft Sill, OK where he was awarded the Military Occupational Specialty of 13B, Cannon Crewmember and Maintainer. Upon completing Advanced Individual Training (AIT) and Airborne School he was assigned to 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Upon completion of his first term he reclassified to (13M) Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) where he served at Ft Bragg, North Carolina before volunteering for recruiting duty.

Hamby’s assignments include: Team Leader and Squad Leader, Charlie Battery, 1st of the 8th Field Artillery (Schofield Barracks, Hawaii); Ammo Section Chief and SPLL Chief (Ft. Bragg, North Carolina) Recruiter, Saint Louis Recruiting Battalion; Operations Sergeant, Saint Louis Recruiting Battalion; Station Commander, Saint Louis Recruiting Battalion; Loves Park First Sergeant, Chicago Recruiting Battalion; Fairview Heights Company First Sergeant, Indianapolis Recruiting Battalion; Operations Sergeant Major, Jacksonville Recruiting Battalion and currently the Command Sergeant Major of the Oklahoma City Recruiting Battalion.

Hamby is a graduate of all Army NCOES courses through Command Sergeants Major Course. He also graduated the Basic Recruiter Course, Army Recruiting Station Commander Course, Guidance Counselor and Operations Course, Airborne and Air Assault Course, DA First Sergeant Course, and the Army Recruiting First Sergeant Course. CSM Hamby also has graduated from the Brigade and Battalion Pre-Command Course. CSM Hamby also earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Columbia University in Columbia, Missouri, and is currently working on his Masters in Strategic Leadership.

Hamby’s awards and decorations include: Meritorious Service Medal (with 3rd oak leaf clusters); Army Commendation Medal (with 8th oak leaf clusters); Army Achievement Medal (with 10th oak leaf clusters); Meritorious Unit Citation; Army Superior Unit Award (with 2 oak leaf clusters); Army Good Conduct Medal (8th Award); National Defense Service Medal; NCO Professional Development Ribbon
(with numeral 4); Army Service Ribbon; Army Recruiter Gold Badge thru Glen E. Murrell Ring; Parachute Badge; Drivers’ Badge; Air Assault Badge. CSM Hamby is also a member of the distinguished Sergeant Audie Murphy Club.
