Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Shane R. Doolan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Police Studies from John Jay College, New York City, New York in 1999. After leaving college and spending 26 months as an enlisted service member, LTC Doolan commissioned in October, 2001 through the Officer Candidacy School (OCS) at Fort Benning, Georgia. Upon completion of the Captains’ Career Course in June of 2006, LTC Doolan attended the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey, California. While at NPS, LTC Doolan earned a Masters of Arts in Security Studies (Post-Conflict Reconstruction) in March of 2008. After graduating the Command General and Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas in 2013, LTC Doolan served as the Chief of Staff for two Field Artillery Battalions. As LTC Doolan prepared to serve as a Professor of Military Science (PMS), he completed a Masters in Higher Education at the University of Louisville.
Prior to serving as the Commander of the Chicago Recruiting Battalion, LTC Doolan served as the Commander of a rocket battalion in South Korea, the 1st Battalion, 38th Field Artillery. Other assignments include serving as the Deputy Commanding Officer for the 210th Field Artillery Brigade, co-leading a combined staff with his Republic of Korea’s counterparts, and he also served as a Department Chair and Professor of Military Science at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Additionally, LTC Doolan served in numerous Field Artillery units across the nation. He worked in a combined environment with representatives from both the U.S. and Italian State Departments developing and implementing the reconstruction plan for southern Iraq. Later, LTC Doolan was attached to the U.S. Air Force. While attached to the Air Force he executed numerous counter terrorism and drug interdiction missions around the globe. Assignments include the 1st Battalion, 12th Field Artillery (MLRS), Fort Sill, Oklahoma; 2nd Battalion, 29th Field Artillery (Paladins), Fort Bliss, Texas; Military Intelligence Detachment (JSTARS), Warner Robins, Georgia; and served as the Executive Officer for both the 3rd Battalion, 13th Field Artillery and the 2nd Battalion, 4th Field Artillery, Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
His awards of note include: Bronze Star Medals; Meritorious Service Medals; Air Medals; Aerial Achievement Medal; Army Commendation Medals; and Army Achievement Medals. He failed miserably at learning any Korean and developing the coordination necessary to use chop sticks. But he did earn the mutual respect and admiration of our Korean partners.
