Harrisburg Recruiting Battalion Commander

Lt. Col. Thomas R. Geisinger

Lt. Col. Thomas R. Geisinger commissioned into Military Intelligence from Texas A&M University in 2004.  He was selected into Special Operations Civil Affairs in 2009.

In addition to a bachelor’s degree in history from Texas A&M University, he earned a Master of Military Science (MMAS) degree from the Command and General Staff College in 2016, and a Master of Science in Education from Kansas State University in 2018.  After selection to the Advanced Strategy, Plans, and Policy (ASP3) fellowship, he attended the University of Virginia to complete a PhD in International History and Diplomacy.  He will defend his dissertation in July 2023.  He has written extensively and published articles on the value of civil-military engagement as tool to help achieve national objectives.

Geisinger is a graduate of the Military Intelligence Basic and Advanced Courses, the Civil Affairs Qualification Course, the Command and General Staff College, the Basic Airborne Course, the Air Assault Course, the SERE-C (High Risk) Course, the Advanced Negotiation and Mediation Course, Special Operations Language Training (Persian/Farsi), and the Special Operations Jumpmaster Course.

His past assignments include: Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer, 202nd Military Intelligence Battalion, Fort Eisenhower, Georgia; Team Leader, 96th Civil Affairs Battalion (Airborne); Civil Affairs Planner, 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group; Instructor/Writer and later HHD company command in 3rd Battalion, 1st Special Warfare Training Group, Special Operations Center of Excellence (Airborne), Fort Liberty, North Carolina; commander, Fox Company, 96th Civil Affairs Battalion (Airborne); and Group Executive Officer for 2nd Special Warfare Training Group (Airborne), Special Operations Center of Excellence, Fort Liberty, North Carolina.

Geisinger has deployed to locations across the Middle East with U.S. Special Operations Forces, including Yemen, Afghanistan, Syria, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He is not fond of the taste of goat, but finds it more palatable with a spicy sauce.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (1OLC), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2OLC), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2OLC), Army Achievement Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Senior Parachutist Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.
