Meet Your Recruiter - Staff Sgt. Edward Bringas

By Hunter West USAREC Public Affairs

Staff Sgt. Edward Bringas, a Bayamon, Puerto Rico native, serves as an Army Reserve Recruiter with the San Antonio Southeast Recruiting Station in San Antonio, Texas. Bringas was recognized by the U.S. Army Recruiting Command leadership as the Army Reserve Recruiter of the Year for 2024.

“After seeing my dad serve, I wanted to make sure I followed his steps,” Bringas said. “I wanted to be a part of something bigger than myself.”

Bringas joined the Army on October 27, 2016, shortly after his 18th birthday, as an 88H Cargo Specialist. He was drawn to this Military Occupation Specialty because of his father, who currently serves as an 88H Cargo Specialist in the Army Reserves. Knowing what to expect in this MOS from his father, Bringas decided that not only did he want to operate and work with heavy vehicles, but he also wanted certifications that would transfer into the civilian world.

“The educational and lifelong benefits really motivated me to join the Army alongside my father.” Bringas said.

Currently, Bringas has 112 semester hours towards his bachelor’s degree from the University of Puerto Rico. As a cargo specialist, Bringas received the designation of Distinguished Honor graduate for the Army Basic Leader Course in 2019, as well as the Best Warrior Competition awardee for the 393rd battalion the same year.

“Working at USAREC gives me the opportunity to impact lives of those in the community and provide individuals with the resources they need to help them achieve their goals and needs.” Bringas said.

On May 30, 2021, Bringas graduated from the Army Recruiter Course as a 79R Army Reserve Recruiter. Alongside his Army Reserve Recruiter of the Year for 2024 honor, Bringas was also awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in 2024. To add onto his current honors, Bringas is working towards becoming a warrant officer for the 420T Talent Acquisitions Technician program and he aspires to join the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club.

Bringas attributes his success in the Army to his family and Army leaders.

“They have fully supported me and helped me develop into the leader I am today.” Bringas said.

When not Recruiting, Bringas enjoys sports, especially basketball, weightlifting, and history.
