FORT KNOX, Ky. –
Staff Sgt. Hector Salas, a native of Caguas, Puerto Rico, serves as the deputy station commander at the Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania recruiting station. Recently, he was recognized by U.S. Army Recruiting Command leadership as one of the standout performers in the command.
“I joined the Army in 2017, shortly after Hurricane Maria,” Salas said. “After Hurricane Maria struck Puerto Rico, I turned to the Army for support in providing for my family and to improve both as an individual and as a leader.”
Salas enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Logistics Specialist, where he was responsible for overseeing and managing logistical operations. This role allowed him to develop and cultivate leadership skills while supporting the success of others.
Before joining USAREC in 2024, Salas completed two deployments and served as a senior jumpmaster. These experiences helped him become a successful recruiter.
“USAREC has given me the opportunity to share my story and assist others in joining the Army, ultimately helping to shape their futures,” Salas said.
Salas continues to strive toward achieving his goals. He earned a bachelor’s degree in management, and his next goal is to obtain a master’s degree in marketing and logistics. His biggest aspiration is to become a command sergeant major before retiring from the Army. However, he acknowledges that he could not have achieved these goals alone.
“Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with leaders who have guided me at every stage,” Salas said. “Additionally, I am fortunate to have great peers who are always willing to offer their support.”
Salas enjoys serving in the Army and being part of something greater than himself. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, working out, and detailing his car.
