NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa –
Command Chaplain Col. Jerry D. Hall recently visited the Harrisburg Recruiting Battalion to provide guidance and support during the holiday season. Hall expressed excitement for the opportunity, sharing he had long wanted to visit the battalion.
Hall emphasized the importance of his mission to Soldiers facing isolation. Especially Army Recruiters, who may not have the same resource access as Soldiers on military installations. This makes it vital for chaplains, like Hall to educate and promote the resources available to them.
During a group session with the battalion, Hall made it clear Soldiers should never hesitate to reach out to their chaplain. He reassured Soldiers if they feel overwhelmed, there is always someone available to listen, and they should not carry their burdens alone. His advice, “Let someone else carry your rucksack”, highlights the importance of seeking help.
Hall also addressed the seasonal struggles that affect both Soldiers and civilians. The shorter days, emotional strain of being away from family or just feeling alone, Hall encourages Soldiers to stay emotionally healthy by relying on their support network, whether that be friends, family, or faith. Hall reminded the Harrisburg Battalion that the holiday season is a time for care and connection.
Chaplain Hall’s visit is a powerful reminder that mental resilience is just as important as physical readiness, and that resources are available to Soldiers. The message was clear: no soldier should feel alone and reaching out for help is a sign of strength.
