FORT KNOX, Ky. –
Staff Sgt. Sharmelle Williams, a native of Fairmont Heights, Maryland, serves as a recruiter at the Southeast Region Chaplain Recruiting Station in Hampton, Georgia. She was recently recognized by the leadership of U.S. Army Recruiting Command as one of the standout performers in the command.
Williams’ brother has also been a mentor of hers, and she was motivated to join the Army from watching him serve. She answered her call to service in 2011 by joining the Army as a Religious Affairs Specialist, 56M.
"I love my job because it allows me to give back to the community,” Williams said.
Her love for helping the community has helped her be successful as a recruiter; she has been awarded several superior recruiting awards since she first came to USAREC.
“I came to USAREC in July of 2022 and while being a recruiter I earned the recruiter ring and was a Top Gladiator,” Williams said.
Williams enjoys the unique opportunity she has in USAREC of learning about different cultures and meeting people from all different walks of life.
In addition to her brother being her mentor she also has two leaders who have been instrumental in her success.
“The person who helped me become the person I am today is Sgt. 1st Class Ashley James and Maj. Sugrim Nafatara. “They are the reason I am successful now in this broadening assignment,” Williams said.
