FORT KNOX, Ky. –
Staff Sgt. Oscar Becerra, a native of Yuma, Arizona, serves as a Recruiter at the Coronado Recruiting Station in El Paso, Texas.
Becerra joined the Army as a Utilities Equipment Repairer. He loves mechanics, getting greasy and dirty. This job gave him the ability to work on the mechanics and HVAC systems of vehicles.
“After graduating from high school, I tried college and realized it wasn’t something I wanted to do at that moment,” Becerra said. “But I also wanted to give back to the country that gave my family so much while being immigrants.”
The Army provides Becerra great benefits that are needed for his family. Having a child with a special condition could be a burden, but with the medical benefits he does not have to worry. The Army is a great organization filled with opportunities that allows you to become who you want to be.
“The person I am today is because of my beautiful wife Ericka and kids, they are the light of my success,” Becerra said. “Sgt. 1st Class Jackson has attributed to my career success as a Recruiter and provided the mentorship and knowledge of waivers and how USAREC operates. “
Becerra was never a huge fan of attending school but would like to complete his Bachelor of Arts in of Homeland Security. Nobody in his immediate family has achieved a BA in any studies. Once he accomplishes 20 years in the Army, he looks forward to continuing his life in the federal field.
When not recruiting Becerra enjoys working on project cars such as his 99 Honda Civic and 92 Nissan Sentra.
