FORT KNOX, Ky. –
Sgt. 1st Class Nghiem Van Nguyen, originally from El Monte, California, serves as a Recruiter at the Azusa Recruiting Station in Baldwin Park, California. Nguyen was recently recognized as a FY 2024 Top 13 Recruiter.
Nguyen holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Purdue Global in 2020 and is currently pursuing his Master of Business Studies at the University of Arizona.
Prior to working at the U.S. Army Recruiting Command, Nguyen served as a 31B Military Police Soldier. Inspired by his grandfather’s legacy as a special police officer in the South Republic of Vietnam.
“I always knew I would join the Army,” Nguyen said. “Since I was a little kid, I wanted to be either a police officer or a Soldier, so I joined because I knew I could achieve both of my dreams here.”
As a 79R Deputy Station Commander, Nguyen’s career highlights include being awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and being named a Top 13 Recruiter in 2020.
“Working at USAREC helps me with my networking,” Nguyen said. “I have many opportunities to meet and learn from successful city councils, entrepreneurs and scholars.”
Nguyen said he attributes his success to his wife because, without her unwavering support, he does not think he would be able to last in such a fast-paced environment. Outside of work, he said he enjoys going to the gym and playing badminton.
“I want to educate more people about opportunities they can have with the Army,” he said. “I want them to know how they can change their lives with the Army.”
