FORT KNOX, Ky. –
Team USA’s Sgt. Sagen Maddalena not only won the gold medal and 2023 Pan American Games Champion title in the 10m Air Rifle, but she also set the new Pan American Games finals record with a score of 249.5, Oct. 22.
Maddalena’s marksmanship skills were not limited to the 10M Air Rifle event. During the Oct. 26 50M Smallbore competition, Maddalena received the silver medal with a score of 457.2 in the final. As a team, Maddalena and partner, Gavin Barnick, received the bronze medal in the mixed 10M Air Rifle event with the combined score of 622.6 points.
Maddalena joined the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit at Fort Moore, Georgia as a shooter and instructor on the International Rifle Team March 2019. She already had a distinguished shooting career before she joined the Army.
She made the World Championship team in both 2014 and 2018 during her NCAA career at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resource Management. She was also an eight time All-American.
