FORT KNOX, Ky. –
Master Sgt. Nelson H. Arroyo, a native of Orlando, Florida, serves as a recruiter with the U.S. Army Recruiting Command in Brandon, Florida. USAREC leadership recently recognized him as a standout performer in the command.
“I serve in the U.S. Army because it is a family legacy to serve and there’s nothing better than being a part of the reason Americans get to enjoy all of the freedoms we have today,” Arroyo said.
Arroyo joined the Army as an AH-64 helicopter repairer because he wanted to work on something much more significant than vehicles.
“The number one motivator for me to join the U.S. Army was so I can have a career where I will be able to provide for my family and ensure my children are taken care of in their future,” Arroyo said. “It also meant that I could fulfill a 20-year career while looking back and saying I was a part of something great.”
Working in USAREC has given him many opportunities, but nothing more unique than enlisting his daughter in the U.S. Army.
“Helping her find the exact MOS that she always wanted and being able to see her graduate both basic training and Advanced Individual Training is the most unique opportunity I have had as a recruiter,” Arroyo said.
Arroyo is thankful for the opportunities and experiences working as a recruiter has provided him.
“I have been able to help people of different ages, backgrounds and living situations make the choice to join the Army and forever change their future for the better,” Arroyo said.
He attributes his success in life to his late grandfather, who always taught him to take pride in everything he does.
“First and foremost, I pray that I can stay healthy enough to serve 20 plus years in the Army and watch my daughter succeed through her career as well,” Arroyo said.
When not recruiting, Arroyo enjoys golf, weightlifting, and spending time with family while barbequing/smoking brisket, ribs or pork butts.
