FORT KNOX, Ky. –
U.S. Army Recruiting Command recently selected Sgt. 1st Class Kelly Morris, a native of Grapevine, Texas, as a top 13 station commander.
He has family members who have served past and present, but when the twin towers were destroyed he decided to join.
“I had a sense of responsibility to my country as an able-bodied young man to serve," Morris said. "My father, uncles and grandfathers also served, so it has become somewhat of a tradition."
Morris joined the U.S. Army as cannon crew member. He wanted to serve in a combat arms job and shooting giant bullets seemed fun to him.
Morris now leads the San Antonio Medical Recruiting station.
“I get to meet the most professional medical providers and pre-med students in the world and offer them an opportunity to sharpen their skills by practicing their craft for the United States Army Medical Department,” shared Morris.
Having a chance to represent the Medical Recruiting Brigade means a lot. He said that his brigade is filled with professional noncommissioned officers and officers who are intelligent and have an amazing work ethic.
When not recruiting Morris enjoys baseball, football, pickleball and cooking.
Balancing work with family life can be challenging. He attributes his level of success to having an amazing support system allowing him to take the time needed to maintain both.
“My wife inspires me," Morris said. "She has given me so much support over the past 17 years."
