Meet your recruiter- Sgt. 1st Class James Acton

By Capt. Memory Burch USAREC Public Affairs

Sgt. 1st Class James Acton, a Texas native, serves as a recruiter with U.S. Army Recruiting Command in Laredo, Texas. The Sergeant Major of the Army recently recognized Acton as a top-performing station commander.

Acton joined the Army as a cavalry scout and enjoyed the versatility of working in that career.

“Being able to work in a small team, within small units allowed for more specialized missions,” Acton said.

To make a better life for himself inspired Acton to enlist in the Army. His patriotic spirit and desire to preserve America’s freedoms encouraged him even more to serve.

“I love this country and would do anything to protect our freedom and the American way of life,” the San Antonio Recruiting Battalion recruiter said.

He said he takes every person he puts into the Army seriously. He knows how important each one of them are to the future.

“I believe in what the U.S. Army can do for you intangibly and tangibly, and I couldn’t be prouder to lead this future generation into the future of the Army,” Acton said.

Acton stays busy when not recruiting future Soldiers by volunteering at food drives hosted by the Laredo Veterans of Foreign Wars and participating in career days at local schools. His favorite thing to do is spend time with his family.

Acton completed a bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership. He plans to pursue a master’s degree and stay in the Army until retirement. His family, especially his wife, older brother, and his late father, drive him to achieve greater success.

“I especially attribute my success to my wife; she has been with me through deployments and multiple moves, and she truly makes me want to be and do better every day,” Acton said.
