COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –
A U.S. Army Soldier assigned to the Denver Army Recruiting Battalion was involved in a multi-vehicle accident in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Nov. 23, and succumbed to her injuries Nov. 27.
Staff Sgt. Sydny Johnson, 35, served as a member of the Citadel Recruiting Station.
Johnson was born in Cherry Point, North Carolina and earned her Associates of Arts from Tarrant County College in 2012. She would later go on to achieve her Bachelor of Arts from Southern New Hampshire University in 2020.
“We are deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic passing of SSG Johnson,” said Lt. Col. Jonathan Fornes, Denver Battalion commander.
“In the ten months she was with us, she exceeded all expectations, inspired her fellow recruiters to seek excellence and left a lasting legacy with her teammates at the Citadel Recruiting Station, the Colorado Springs Company, and the Denver Recruiting Battalion. She was truly one-of-a-kind.”
Johnson joined the Army in 2015 as a multimedia illustrator and attended basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Upon completing her Advanced Individual Training at Fort Meade, Maryland, Johnson served as a graphic designer for the Garrison Public Affairs Office in Camp Humphreys, South Korea.
In 2018, Johnson attended Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia and was then assigned to 10th Special Forces Group’s Public Affairs Office, where she served as the lead graphic designer.
During her time at 10th SFG (A), Johnson was heavily involved in many of the Group’s projects to include the development of the unit’s branding guidelines and many of the static displays featured throughout Group’s compound on Fort Carson.
Johnson is remembered by friends, family and fellow Soldiers as a loyal friend and reliable leader, going above and beyond the line of duty to complete her mission and to help her fellow Soldiers grow, both personally and professionally. Outside of the Army, Johnson was an avid weightlifter, artist, and lover of animals.
She is survived by her wife, Lori, daughter Mckenna and son Ryker.
