Army Recruiting announces positive COVID-19 cases

By USAREC Public Affairs

Recruiters assigned to U.S. Army Recruiting Command* tested positive for the COVID-19 virus over the weekend.

A recruiter, assigned to U.S Army 2nd Recruiting Brigade covering the southeast region of the United States, tested positive on March 20, 2020, and is currently in isolation at his residence. A recruiter, assigned to U.S. Army 1st Recruiting Brigade covering the northeast region of the United States, tested positive on March 22, 2020, and is currently in isolation at his residence.

The Army is working with local health officials to begin the process of tracing and contacting people with whom the recruiters might have had contact with over the past two weeks.

The U.S. Army Recruiting Command personnel are implementing all appropriate measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 throughout the command.

*U.S. Army Recruiting Command will not publicly release the specific locations of our personnel who test positive. We have notified the state health department where the recruiter is stationed. Our recruiters serve in all 50 states, U.S. Territories, and overseas. In certain areas one station with two recruiters may recruit the entire state. Even in large states, our recruiter population is a much smaller footprint than the Soldier population at an Army post. By identifying the state where the recruiter is stationed, there is a risk the recruiter could be identified, which violates Personally Identifiable Information and Protected Health Information.
