Joint Service participation at the first-ever ASVAB Career Exploration Program Post-Test Interpretation Proficiency Training sessions is expected to strengthen recruiting efforts and facilitate reliable delivery of the DOD’s no-cost career planning resource.
Last year, more than 710,000 students in grades 10-12 and those enrolled at post-secondary institutions participated in the ASVAB Career Exploration Program (CEP). Unfortunately, only a fraction of those took advantage of the rich post-test interpretation session and career exploration resources available using asvabprogram.com and careersinthemilitary.com.
Representatives from all Service Branches, the DOD’s Office of People Analytics (OPA), Accession Policy, U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command (USMEPCOM) and local Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS) are invited to learn about the program enhancements, the standardized process by which post-test interpretation sessions are conducted and the strategic purposes of collaborating with others operating within their territory to achieve mission.
“Together, we can help young people make informed decisions about their futures,” says Dr. Shannon Salyer, Executive Program Director of the ASVAB CEP.
Ultimately, the field of 65 geographically dispersed MEPS Education Services Specialists (ESS) are responsible for ASVAB CEP delivery. However, their success relies heavily on the knowledge and network of test coordinators, Service ESS, local recruiters, school counselors, teachers and administrators.
Over the last three years, significant enhancements were made to the ASVAB CEP post-test user experience. Until now, the field has received minimal formal training.
“This opportunity to bring the field together and train them to deliver a cohesive program could inspire more widespread adoption of the ASVAB CEP in schools and give young people the power to decide which path is right for them,” says Salyer.
The ASVAB CEP includes an aptitude test, an interest assessment, and career planning tools. The results of the assessments offered through the ASVAB CEP serve as the basis for informed career exploration based on skills and interests. The ASVAB CEP supports career literacy with planning tools that give students access to all of their options to career attainment via college, work-based learning, credentialing, and the Military.
“College is often presented as the only viable option,” says Salyer, “but post-secondary success looks different for everyone.” The ASVAB CEP is the only complete career exploration program that gives participants the resources they need to make an informed decision.
Training attendees are scheduled to converge in Monterey, CA for the first of three training sessions set to begin on 26 FEB 2019.
