Lieutenant Colonel Hayden D. Scardina is married to the former Caitlin Keys of Portland, Oregon. They have three sons Sheridan, Grant, and Thomas.
In 2005, LTC Scardina received a commission from the United States Military Academy as an Armor Officer. Following completion of training at Fort Knox, KY he served in 1-40 CAV at Fort Richardson, AK from 2005-2007. His positions in 1-40 CAV included Platoon Leader, Troop Executive Officer, and Squadron Adjutant. While in 1-40 CAV, he deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2006-2007.
After completing the Captain’s Career Course at Fort Knox, KY, LTC Scardina was assigned to 4-2 SBCT at Fort Lewis, WA. He served as a Brigade Assistant Operations Officer then as a Troop Commander from 2008-2010. While in 2-1 CAV, he deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2009-2010.
Following his PCS from Fort Lewis to the National Training Center, LTC Scardina served as an Armor Company Team Trainer on the Scorpion Team from 2011-2012. He then departed to Baltimore, MD where he served as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at the University of Loyola Maryland from 2013-2015.
After completion of ILE, the Scardina Family moved to Fort Hood, TX. LTC Scardina immediately deployed to Kuwait to serve in the Operation Inherent Resolve J35 from 2017-2018. After returning from Kuwait, LTC Scardina served as the Executive Officer, and later Operations Officer, for 2-7 CAV from 2018-2020. While in 2-7 CAV, he completed a rotation to the Republic of Korea from 2019-2020. The Scardina Family then moved to Fort Meade, MD where LTC Scardina served as the Brigade Operations Officer for the 1st U.S. Army Recruiting Brigade from 2020-2021.
After serving in 1st Recruiting Brigade, the Scardina Family moved to Bydgoszcz, Poland where LTC Scardina served as a Strategic Plans Officer at NATO’s Joint Force Training Centre.
Prior to arriving in Cleveland, LTC Scardina Commanded 3-16 CAV at Fort Benning, GA.
LTC Scardina’s major awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal. He is a graduate of the Cavalry Leader Course, Scout Leaders Course, Basic Airborne Course, Command and General Staff College, and School of Advanced Military Studies.
