Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Shane E. Nunes was born in Livermore, CA. He enlisted into the Army on July 13, 2004, and completed one station unit training at Fort Sill, OK. His initial military occupational training was as a Fire Support Specialist (13F). From September 2005 to January 2006, he served as a Forward Observer with A Co, 3-504th PIR, 82nd Airborne Division in Iraq during national elections, later attaching to a USASOC task force as a Tactical Air Controller for attack aviation and close air support. From January 2007 to 2008, he was the Fire Support NCO and Team Chief for HHC, 1-508th PIR, 82nd Airborne Division during operations in Afghanistan, serving as a forward Observer, Recon Team leader, and Air Controller tasked to support both Special Operations Forces and NATO partners during joint combat operations.
From November 2008 to June 2011, CSM Nunes served as a detailed recruiter in the Roseville, CA, earning the Top New Recruiter Award in 2009. He served as a Center Commander in Auburn Ca, where he earned Top Center Commander of the Year 2012. He then led the Burleson Recruiting Center in Fort Worth Company and later served as the Master Trainer for Dallas Recruiting Battalion. In January 2016 he was assigned to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment Airborne, where he was tasked to recruit on a worldwide basis for Special Operations Recruiting Battalion. In May 2017 he became the 1SG for Liberty Recruiting Company Kansas City Recruiting Battalion and was later selected as the Operations Sergeant Major at Montgomery Recruiting Battalion, Maxwell, AFB, AL. In January of 2023 CSM Nunes took the responsibility of Command Sergeant Major of Kansas City Recruiting Battalion.
CSM Nunes is a graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy. The Command Sergeant Major Development Course and the Battalion Pre-Command Course. The Recruiting First Sergeant Company Commander Course where he earned the Iron Soldier award. Senior Leaders Course, where he was the Distinguished Leader Graduate, the Advanced Leaders Course where he was the Honor Graduate, the Warrior Leaders Course, the Army’s Basic Recruiter Course, Station Commander’s Course, Master Resiliency Trainers’ course, Training Manager Course, Air Force’s Joint Firepower Combat Course, Airborne, and Air Assault.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Post University and an MBA in Human Resources at Liberty University
