FORT KNOX, Ky. –
Staff Sgt. Stanley Sutton, a native of Lexington, New York, serves as a recruiter at the Fitchburg, Massachusetts, recruiting station. He was recently recognized by U.S. Army Recruiting Command leadership as one of the command’s standout performers.
“I serve in the Army to simultaneously protect and serve the people of the United States, as well as for career stability and all the benefits that come with military service,” Sutton said.
Sutton enlisted in the Army straight out of high school in 2014 as a UH-60 helicopter repairer/aircrew member. In this role, he performed, maintained, repaired, and inspected UH-60 “Black Hawk” helicopters.
He chose the aviation field after being encouraged by his high school guidance counselor’s son, a Black Hawk pilot. With a passion for mechanics and hands-on work, Sutton found the role to be a perfect fit.
Before joining USAREC in 2022, Sutton completed Air Assault School and was handpicked for multiple details assisting the President of the United States.
“USAREC has given me the opportunity to share my story and assist others in joining the Army, ultimately helping to shape their futures,” Sutton said. “It provides a unique chance to communicate with people and help them determine a path to success, both in the Army and afterward, whether they serve one term or continue for multiple.”
Sutton’s initial motivation to join the Army was to start a career in aviation and earn certifications fully paid for by the Army. He also wanted to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps, who had previously served in the Army.
“I attribute my success to my number one supporter, my parents, Stanley and Marygail Sutton. They have given me the motivation to keep pushing, even when times get tough,” Sutton said. “Also, to all my leaders and mentors in the Army who have guided me on a path to success throughout my career so far.”
