Meet your recruiter- Sgt. 1st Class Mayra Rolon Rivera

By Staff Sgt. Eric Johnson USAREC Public Affairs

Sgt. 1st Class Mayra Rolon Rivera, a native of Puerto Rico, serves as a recruiter with the U.S. Army Recruiting Command in Albany, New York.  USAREC leadership recently recognized her as one of the standout performers in the command.

“I wanted to join the Army ever since I was 15 years old," Rivera shared. "I always said that someday I will join the Army."

Rivera eventually would join the U.S. Army as a culinary specialist.

“I made the decision to join the Army Reserve," Rivera said. "The main reason I joined was to have a job in which I can earn benefits and pay for my retirement, not even a year after I learned that I really joined to serve my country.”

Working in USAREC has given her the opportunities to work outside her comfort zone. Participating in the brigade quarter board gave her the chance to travel and meet her peers. She went on to win that board.

When not recruiting, Rivera enjoys traveling, working out, dancing and spending time with family.

Rivera attributes a great deal of her success to her discipline and her desire to continue to work hard.

“One of my dreams is to own my own house as well as have the opportunity to promote to master sergeant,” Rivera said.
