U. S. Army 1st. Sgt. Justin Loyd, company 1st Sgt. from the Cleveland Metro Recruiting Company shakes the hand of Cleveland Recruiting Battalion Command Sgt. Maj. Robert Burkhammer after receiving the award for "First Sergeant of the Year" for the 3rd Recruiting Brigade at Fort Knox, Ky. Aug. 7, 2025. Loyd earned this recognition by participating in a rigorous competition consisting of a physical fitness test, a grueling ruck march, and an interview with a panel of Army senior enlisted leaders.
