The actions of the New Castle Army Recruiting Company commander may have saved the home of a New Springfield, Ohio, family Aug. 15. Capt. Erin Funkhouser was driving the backroads to the Pittsburgh Airport early that morning when she saw fire coming from the side of a house. She immediately stopped, pounded on the door to make sure the occupants were not still sleeping, and called the fire department.
